Rafa Alcántara, Rafinha was in the Club offices on Thursday to sign a contract to keep him at FC Barcelona until 2016. The 20-year old Brazilian was joined, among others, by the Barça vice president, Josep Maria Bartomeu, director of football Andoni Zubizarreta, and his father, former player Mazinho.

“I am very happy to stay on at Barça. I am not ignoring the option of going somewhere on loan. If I have to go away to get playing time, then that’s no problem”, said the player in his immediate future.

“I came here when I was 13 with the dream of one day making it into the first team and I am very happy that my dream is coming true. This club has given me values and an education. I am the player I am thanks to Barça”, added Rafinha.

Rafinha played 36 matches last season for 2012/13 and scored ten goals. He will remain at the club for at least another three years, and used his Twitter account to express his delight as follows:
