Hercules v Barça B: Win secures third place (1-2)

First half goals from Munir and Bagnack put Barça in the driving seat and despite a goal from Eldín the home side couldn’t find a way back The third place finish equals the Club record for Barça B set in the 2010/11 season under Luis Enrique

Barça B have finished the season on a high with a 1-2 win in Alicante.  Munir and Bagnack seized on defensive errors to put Barça 0-2 up at half time.  Eldín pulled one back for Hercules in the second half but a fine performance by goalkeeper Bañuz in the closing minutes prevented the equalizer. The win leaves Eusebio’s team in third place with 66 points, equalling the current Club record for the second division.

Barça B begin well

Barça B took the initiative from the kick-off, dominating midfield and creating plenty of threat upfront.  Munir seized on a defensive error in the 17th minute to put Barça ahead.

The pendulum swung the other way after the opening goal and Bañuz had more work to do in the Barça goal.  Ortiz spurned a chance to equalize for the home team.  Planas limped off in the 23 rd minute in his last match with Barça B but just before halftime, another defensive error led to Bagnack doubling Barça’s lead (0-2).

Bañuz prevents the equalizer

Samper came on for the injured Munir in the second half and the change seemed to unsettle the team.  Hercules began to look more dangerous until Eldín scored after a route one move.

The game became wide open and only a good performance by Bañuz (also in his last match) stopped Hercules from taking a share of the points.
