On Barça B’s second day in Navata (Girona), Eusebio Sacristán has spoken to the press about his first impressions, saying he is pleased with the ‘solid base’ established last season, and hopeful that his young but top quality squad will be just as competitive.

An enthusiastic Eusebio commented that Barça B “has an exciting start to the season ahead. It’s very interesting.” They open at home to Almeria and then travel to Real Madrid Castilla.

New signings

Eusebio spoke about Juan Ángel Román and David Lombán, the first two new acquisitions. On the former, he said “he is a wide player that can tip the balance, he adds a lot of depth, and can adapt to any of the positions in attack”.

As for Lombán, Eusebio said that the team “needed to strengthen the centre of defence … He has all the characteristics we needed, he brings the ball out well and has experience at this level … We have a young side and we need players like him, with experience, they are a great help”.

Open doors

Asked if that means the squad is now closed, Eusebio confirmed that “we are working to incorporate some other player”. As for the seven youth players that have moved up to Barça B, the manager said “if I think they are ready to play in the Second Division, then they’ll stay”.

Training in Navata

Eusebio Sacristán’s side trained on Thursday morning at 9.30, their second session since arriving in Navata (Girona). Following a warm-up, they divided into groups of three for matches on downsized pitches. The Barça players will be training twice a day, morning and evening, the latter at 18.30. On Friday they have a friendly against the local club from Navata, which kicks off at 20.00.
