FC Porto 2-1 FC Barcelona Lassa: Beaten in Portugal

Misfortune in front of goal means Ricard Muñoz's side have lost for the first time in this season's European campaign

Barça Lassa went into today’s European League encounter with a perfect record from the first two fixtures against Bassano and Merignac. But the game with Porto always threatened to be the most difficult so far, and that did indeed prove to be the case on Saturday afternoon.

The Portuguese outfit could go top of the group with a win, and that’s precisely what they got, scoring either side of Barça’s solitary goal from Lucas Ordoñez.

The opener was a particularly cruel blow, Gonçalo Alves netting at a stage of the second half when the Catalans were playing the better hockey. Ordoñez struck back from a direct free on the 43 minute mark, but seven minutes later the captain of home team, Hélder Nunes, secured the win.

Barça are back in action on Tuesday when the face Girona in the OK Liga, the last fixture before the Christmas break.
