The acronym SPF normally stands for Sun Protection Factor.
But not today. Today, at least, it stands for Spain, Portugal, and France.
And, today at least, placing the number seven after it has nothing to do with ultraviolet rays, but rather the number of FC Barcelona players that were involved in Thursday night's friendly victories by each of the trio of contiguous, Western European neighbours.
Spain used four Barça players — Gerard Piqué, Jordi Alba, Sergio Busquets, and Sergi Roberto — in beating Belgium, 2–0, in their first game under new head coach Julen Lopetegui.
Portugal used new Barça player André Gomes in breezing past tiny Gibraltar, 5–0.
And France's SamuelUmtiti and LucasDigne — new Barça players themselves — appeared in their 3–1 win over Italy.
Three countries, three victories, seven Barça players in key roles.
In other action Thursday, FC Barcelona's most recent signing, the Dutch goalkeeper JasperCillessen, watched from the bench as his compatriots fell to Greece, 2–1.
The international break continues next week with World Cup Qualifiers. A bevy of Barça players will feature in those matchups. See the full slate of international games featuring Barça players, here.
