Rival Watch: A win for Deportivo, first defeat of the season for Manchester City

Contrasting fortunes for Barça’s next opponents in La Liga and in the Champions League with the Galicians taking three points against Sporting and Guardiola’s team losing at Spurs

Barça’s next opponents in the La Liga, Deportivo La Coruña, received a much needed confidence boost ahead of their trip to Camp Nou on Saturday 15 October following the international break thanks to a 2-1 win over Sporting Gijón in Riazor on Sunday.

Gaizka Garitano’s side claimed their first victory since the opening weekend courtesy of an injury time winner from new signing Ryan Babel. The former Liverpool winger’s strike came after Depor had taken the lead in the first half through Celso Borges, only for it to be cancelled out by Sergio Álvarez’s effort after the break.

Luis Enrique’s team are next in action in Europe on 19 October when they welcome Manchester City to Camp Nou in Group C of the Champions League. Pep Guardiola’s team suffered their first defeat of the campaign on Sunday when they lost 2-0 at White Hart Lane against Tottenham Hotspur.

An own goal from Kolarov and a calm finish from Dele Alli in the first half gave the side coached by Mauricio Pochettino all three points and reduces City’s lead at the top of the Premiership to just one point.
