[U19 FOOTBALL] FC Barcelona 2-2 Mallorca: Leaders drop first points

The home side dominate against the third-placed islanders, but the visitors make their chances count and the spoils are ultimately shared

The FC Barcelona U19 team expected a tough game against third placed Mallorca, and that indeed proved to be the case as the islanders became the first team to take points off them this season

The visitors adopted a defensive approach that Barça struggled to adapt to and the first half hour passed with neither side causing any major danger. But Gabri Garcia and his eleven charges gradually got to grips with the way the game was flowing, and started building up the chances as half-time approached, with Collado and Pérez coming close before Lee finally broke the deadlock just ahead of the interval.

Barça looked a good bet to extend on their lead as the second half progressed, but against the run of play Alberto Fernández managed to get Mallorca back level, and buoyed by their sudden turn in fortune, they then found themselves leading through Gerardo Bonet.

Àlex Collado got Barça back on level terms with 20 minutes left to play, and although the lion’s share of the remaining chances were claimed by Barça, Mallorca came closest to a winner when Navalón’s trike narrowly spun wide of Iñaki’s goal.

The 2-2 draw means Barça stay top of their division with 28 points ahead of next week’s trip to Zaragoza.
