Rival watch: Celtic win again, Atlético lose at Real Sociedad
FC Barcelona's next Champions League opponents still ten points clear in Scotland, while the side ranked in LaLiga return empty-handed from San Sebastian
It has been a weekend of mixed fortunes for the teams in Champions League Group C, with only Celtic picking up a win. Meanwhile in LaLiga, Barça and Sevilla, who face each other tomorrow, both received a boost as fellow title challengers Atlético Madrid suffered their second defeat of the league season.
Celtic still ten-up in Scotland
Barça’s next Champions League opponent Celtic, have beaten Inverness Caledonian Thistle 3-0 to maintain their runaway lead of ten points in the Scottish Premiership. After a goalless first half, Sinclair and Griffiths got the Celts on the road to victory, and their cause was further assisted by the Highlanders having a man sent off.
Rogic finished off the job to make it ten wins in eleven league matches for the Hoops.
Late heartbreak for Man City
South of the border, Manchester City let two points slip away in injury time at home to Middlesbrough. After their impressive win against Barça on Tuesday, Pep Guardiola’s side dominated, but only Sergio Agüero was able to beat the inspired former Barça keeper Víctor Valdés.
City piled on the pressure after that 43rd minute lead but to no avail, and then De Roon brought late agony for the fans in the Etihad by making it 1-1. City have lost top spot to Chelsea, and both Liverpool and Arsenal could also move above them with wins on Sunday.
Gladbach beaten in Berlin
Finally, Borussia Mönchengladbach, against whom Barça will close the Champions League group stage, suffered another reverse on Friday night, this time 3-0 at Hertha Berlin. All three goals were scored former Chelsea man Salomon Kalou.
With Kramer sent off in the second half, it was another night for the foals to forget, and with just 12 Bundesliga points to their name, they are now closer to relegation than the European berths.
