FC Barcelona to face FC Rosengård in the UEFA Women's Champions League quarter finals

The two teams will meet in March, with the first leg taking place in Sweden and the second leg set for the Miniestadi in Barcelona

FC Barcelona Women have been drawn against FC Rosengård of Sweden in the quarter finals of the UEFA Women's Champions League.

The women’s team will be looking to make the semi-finals for the first time in the club’s history. The first leg of the tie will be played away on either 22 or 23 March 2017, while the return game in Barcelona will be the following week, on either 29 or 30 March.

Among the Swedish side’s ranks is five-time World Player of the Year Marta Vieira, and Rosengård have been in the quarter-finals in five of the last six seasons.

The draw was also made for the remainder of the competition; the winner of Barça against Rosengård will face either Bayern Munich or Paris Saint-Germain. The latter were the side who knocked out the Catalans in last year’s competition.

Comments from Miriam Diéguez:

“We are happy because we have avoided some of the big names. We are very enthusiastic because, for the first time, we have had a bit of luck. However, they will be a tough opposition. We are in the quarter-final stage, so any opposition is tough and very difficult.

“They have Marta as the player that stands out, who has been the best player in the world for many years.

“We cannot think about possible semi-final opponents just yet.”
