A host of FC Barcelona players were out on international duty over the last fortnight, competing in important qualifiers as well as friendly matches.
Below is a one-by-one review of how each player got on in their respective games in what was the last round of international games in 2016.
Arda Turan: Played 90 minutes as captain for Turkey against Kosovo in a 2-0 win, his country’s first victory in four qualifiers.
Rakitic: The midfielder played 85 minutes in Croatia’s win over Iceland, keeping them top of their group two points ahead of Ukraine.
André Gomes: Started in Portugal’s 4-1 win over Latvia, and was taken off with three minutes to go. Portugal are second in their group, three points behind leaders Switzerland.
Cillessen: The Dutch keeper did not feature in either of the Netherlands’ two games against Belgium (1-1) and Luxemborg (3-1).
Umtiti: The French defender suffered injury in training before the game against Sweden and since returned to Barcelona.
Digne: The left-back did not appear in the 2-1 qualifier win over Sweden but played all 90 minutes of the 0-0 friendly draw against Ivory Coast.
Sergio Busquets: In Spain’s 4-0 win over FYROM, the midfielder played all 90 minutes which keeps them top of the group along with Italy. Spain rallied back from two goals down against England to draw 2-2 in the friendly at Wembley, in which Busquets was subbed off on 77 minutes.
Sergi Roberto: Barça’s right-back did not feature across the two games for Spain.
Denis Suárez: The youngster helped Spain’s U21s qualify for the European Championships, starting both of his country’s games.
Ter Stegen: The keeper kept a clean sheet in Germany’s 8-0 thrashing of San Marino, but did not feature in the friendly against Italy (0-0).
Luis Suárez: The star striker played every minute for his Uruguay team who beat Ecuador 2-1 and then lost 3-1 to Chile.
Leo Messi: The Argentina captain suffered a painful 3-0 defeat against Brazil but then inspired his team to a 3-0 victory over Colombia with a great free-kick and two assists.
Mascherano: The influential midfielder also played all 180 minutes over the two international matches, which leave Argentina in fifth place in qualifying.
Neymar Jr: The Brazilian magician played a key part in that 3-0 win over Argentina with a fine goal as well as playing all the minutes in his side’s 2-0 win in Peru.
