Overjoyed Luis Suárez: I am where I want to be

Uruguayan striker describes how pleased he feels after agreeing extend his contract with FC Barcelona and looks ahead to Sunday's derby with Espanyol

FC Barcelona has officially announced this Thursday that Luis Suárez is staying the club until 2021, and in response, the Uruguayan striker said that “I am feeling overjoyed about being where I want to be. I feel very happy.”

“It was the decision that we all wanted, both the club and me, we have a great relationship … Any player would want to end their career at a club where they feel comfortable. We’ll have to see, but I will never lose either my ambition or my enthusiasm”.

But aside from contract talk, there is also the no-small matter of a local derby with Espanyol around the corner. “Any derby is nice to play in but hard to win” says the 29-year-old. “And Espanyol are coming into this one in great form. Meanwhile, we have to recover the strength that we had at home.”

Suárez was also asked about fellow trident member Leo Messi, who was named second in the Ballon d’Or. “Everyone has their own criteria” he concedes. “But as far as I’m concerned, Leo deserves to win it every year because of what he gives to football. He’s the best.”
