Las Palmas, Leo Messi’s last challenge

Saturday’s opponent are the last remaining team in La Liga who the Argentine has yet to score against

Leo Messi rarely needs extra motivation when stopping onto the field but, on Saturday, there may just be an added spring in his step.

That is because Las Palmas, who FC Barcelona host at the Camp Nou, are the last remaining team in La Liga who the Argentine has yet to score against.

If Messi were to score against Las Palmas on Saturday, he would increase his number of victims to 35 and go level with Raúl González with teams scored against.

He has already faced them once before but had little time to make a mark on the game as he suffered an injury after just eight minutes.

The Canary Islanders’ keeper is Javi Varas, whom he has scored three goals past, twice while at Sevilla and once at Celta Vigo.

The goalkeepers who have been on the receiving end of the most Messi goals are Diego Alves (Valencia), Andrés Fernández (currently Villarreal, former Osasuna and Granada) and Toño (Rayo Vallecano) with 19, 15 and 12.

His favourite opponents are Atlético Madrid and Sevilla with 21 goals scored against the pair, followed by Osasuna and Valencia (19 each).

Take a look at the above video which shows Messi’s first goal against each of the 34 teams he has netted against.
