Leo Messi will be able to play in Argentina’s forthcoming World Cup qualifiers after FIFA decided on Friday to withdraw the four-match suspension imposed after the game with Chile last March 24.
The Barça striker was forced to sit out his country’s 2-0 defeat in Bolivia a few days later, and would also have missed key games against Uruguay (August 31), Venezuela (September 5) and Peru (October 5), but will now be free to don the famous blue and white jersey as his side continues their bid to go to Russia 2018.
When the world governing body originally announced its decision to ban the four-time Ballon d’Or winner, FC Barcelona issued a statement condemning what it considered an “unfair and totally disproportionate measure.”
