Sergio: ‘The team who produce the best performance on the day will win’

The blaugrana midfielder remained optimistic following the first leg defeat while being aware of the difficulty of the match at the Bernabéu

Sergio spoke to the press ahead of the return leg of the Spanish Super Cup at the Bernabéu: “The team who produce the best performance on the day will win the match.” The blaugrana also made clear that the team has moved on from the defeat at the Camp Nou which happened, “because we made some mistakes and Real Madrid’s finishing was clinical.”

When speaking about last Monday’s game, Sergio noted how Real Madrid “are almost unstoppable when given space on the counter-attack.” However, he was impressed with the team’s response to going 1-0 down: “We went looking for the equaliser and we managed to do so but were unable to adapt after.” Busquets then went on to emphasise the importance of being strong in defence as conceding a goal would make it a lot more difficult.

“Football nowadays demands you improve every year”

Barça’s number ‘5’ discussed some of his post-match comments after the match at the Camp Nou. When asked by journalists Sergio stated: “I said that we needed to improve the team as modern football demands you do so every year.” He understands these “improvements to mean doing so in all areas while making the most of the opportunities in the transfer market.” He insisted that “the more high-quality players who come the better” when discussing the importance of improvements, including in his position.
