Squad announcement for the second leg of the Spanish Super Cup

Ernesto Valverde has called up 19 players for the match at the Santiago Bernabéu with Iniesta missing out due to a muscle injury in his right leg

The second official game of the season means it is Ernesto Valverde’s second squad announcement of the season. After Tuesday’s training session, the blaugrana coach announced the 19 players who will be travelling to the Santiago Bernabéu to try and overturn the 3-1 first leg defeat at the Camp Nou in the Spanish Super Cup.

Barça will play Real Madrid on Wednesday at 11.00pm CET and have called up the following players: Ter Stegen, Cillessen, Semedo, Piqué, Rakitic, Sergio, Denis Suárez, Suárez, Messi, Mascherano, Deulofeu, Paco Alcácer, Jordi Alba, Digne, Sergi Roberto, André Gomes, Aleix Vidal, Umtiti and Aleñá (26).

Rafinha and Vermaelen miss out through injury and Andrés Iniesta, joins them on the sidelines due to a muscle injury in his right leg. Arda Turan, Marlon, Samper, Munir and Douglas have been left out by the coach.

The team trained on the Tito Vilanova pitch on Tuesday following Sergio Busquets and Ernesto Valverde’s press conferences. The session saw all the available first teamers and Barça B’s Ezkieta and Aleñá take part. Andrés Iniesta and Thomas Vermaelen worked out separately. The training session was open to the media for the first fifteen minutes while the squad warmed-up.
