FC Barcelona Lassa – Rhein-Neckar Löwen: A thrilling spectacle at the Palau (26-26)

Weeks after a 31-31 in Germany, Xavi Pascual's team drew against the Bundesliga leader, thanks to a good performance by Gonzalo Pérez de Vargas and Dika Mem

It was a great game at the Palau but one in which, ultimately, Barça Lassa and Rhein-Neckar Löwen, leaders of the German Bundesliga, had to share the points (26-26). On the seventh day of the Champions League, both teams produced some magnificent handball, and they remain a point apart in Group A. Dika Mem and Rnic, with eight goals each, were the top scorers.

Barça started very strongly and led 5-1 after eight minutes thanks to Gonzalo Pérez de Vargas. Xavi Pascual’s team took advantage of the fact that the German’s had played without a goalkeeper to that point but thanks to Rnic, with six goals, and the stellar appearance of Palicka in the visitors’ goal, Rhein-Neckar managed to firstly reduce the deficit, and then surge ahead (14-18 min 38).

Dika Mem, with four goals in the final stretch (eight in total), eventually helped to bring things level at 24-24 late on, however, there was still time for Viran Morros and Víctor Tomàs to register. Thereafter, both defences and goalkeepers were solid and ensured no further goals were scored. Rhein-Neckar (11 points) and Barça (10 points) still trail Group A leaders, Vardar, on 13 points.
