More than 600 professionals from the worlds of technology, innovation and sports attend the third edition of the event organised by the Barça Innovation Hub

The third edition of the Sports Technology Symposium ended amid applause at a packed Auditori 1899 this afternoon at the Camp Nou. The event organised by the Barça Innovation Hub finished after two intense days that brought together more than 600 professionals from the worlds of technology, innovation and the sports industry.

The first block of the second day, Mobile First, dealt with adaptation of the sports experience to mobiles, what is known as the mobile mind-set, and included talks from the head of Global Technology at Google, Saurabh Singhal; the global head of Live Marketing at Twitter, Paul McCrudden, and the marketing manager of Samsung, Alfons Fernández. All of the talks described how technology can improve the competitiveness and performance of athletes as an experience for supporters and fans, thanks to the massive adoption of pocket technologies.

The presentations in the second section, Player Development, were led by Xavier Reche, sports scientist at FC Barcelona; Yvonne Cagle, aerospace flight surgeon at NASA, and Emmanuel Faloba, sports psychologist at the Red Bull Akademie, moderated by the director of Technology and Innovation on the United States Olympic Committee, Mounir Zok.

The talks in this block explained what improvements technology can offer for anything from the perfection of tactical developments in the game to the recovery of athletes from serious injuries. In this regard, astronaut Yvonne Cagle highlighted in an interview with the club media how “the human body has an extraordinary capacity to adapt to space and this can be exploited for healing and recuperation processes”.

Finally, and to close the third FC Barcelona Sports Technology Symposium, the Digital Channel Manager of the All Blacks, David Barton-Giner; the UEFA head of ICTs, Daniel Marion, and the winner of the last Formula E and Audi driver, Lucas di Grassi, gave presentations on the new opportunities offered by information and communication technologies in sport. The speakers discussed how technology can be used to gain a prominent position in the market, and can improve the consumer experience thanks to the new formats for broadcasting and for organising sports events.

The event closed with the announcement of the dates when the fourth edition will be held: 15 and 16 November 2018.
