Peníscola FS v FC Barcelona Lassa: Ferrao breaks deadlock (0-1)

A goal from the Brazilian with five minutes to go gives Andreu Plaza's side a victory in a tough match which the opposition keeper produced some remarkable saves

Barça Lassa secure a hard-fought 1-0 win against tough opposition in Peníscola (0-1) in the 12th league match of the season. The blaugranas gave their all throughout but they were stopped by a fantastic performance in goal from the home side’s keeper Molina.

However, went it seemed like they wouldn’t find a way through, Ferrao scored the winner from a Joselito move with five minutes to go. Barça have won six away league games in a row and are now on 27 points in second place, one point behind Inter Movistar.

Close but no cigar

Despite the lack of goals in the first half, the opening 20 minutes were full of chances and there was some fantastic football on display. The blaugranas dominated but Molina saved from Dyego, Ferrao, Adolfo, Joselito, and Rivillos in the opening seven minutes.

Peníscola slowly gained a footing in the game and they began to carve out some chances of their own. Juan Emilio went close and so did Michel. Barça responded through Aicardo who went close with a shot which hit the post with 15 seconds of the half left to go.

The second half continued in the same vein: the match was open and intense as both sides had their chances. The goalkeepers continued to save the day with Juanjo saving well from Mauricinho (min. 29), Bagatini (min. 29) and Orzaez (min. 30). Meanwhile Molina rebuffed efforts from Joselito (min. 21), Rafa López (min. 24) and Ferrao (min. 27).

Ferrao clinches win

When it looked like there was no way past the home team’s Molina, Ferrao managed to break the deadlock. Joselito recovered the ball and led the counter attack. He fed the Brazilian who made no mistake with the finish in the 35th minute. The home side went all out in search of an equaliser but Barça were solid as a rock at the back to keep a fifth clean sheet of the season.

In the end, they secured a win from a riveting match keeping Barça Lassa in second place. It is Andreu Plaza’s side’s fifth win on the bounce and they will play Osasuna Magna at the Palau Blaugrana at 9.15pm CET on Friday.
