Barça the only unbeaten side in Europe's top leagues

FC Barcelona's win in Anoeta and Manchester City's defeat at Liverpool means that Valverde's team are the only left unbeaten in the five main leagues on the continent

FC Barcelona have ended the first half of the league season with a nine point lead over second placed Atlético Madrid, recording in the process the third best first half in the league’s history. Furthermore, Barça are now the only side in the five main European leagues (La Liga, Premier League, Bundesliga, Serie A and Ligue 1) who remain unbeaten.

In England, Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City side went down to their first defeat in the league on Sunday, losing 4-3 at Liverpool. In Italy leaders Napoli have lost once, in France PSG once and in the Bundesliga, leaders Bayern Munich have lost twice so far this season.

On a run of 29 games without defeat, Ernesto Valverde’s team have gone past the 28 games recorded by Pep Guardiola’s team in 2010/11. Now, they have in their sights the 39 games unbeaten set by Luis Enrique’s team in 2015/16.
