Copa del Rey final, 21 April

The blaugranes will face Sevilla in the second ever cup final between the two clubs with the only precedent being Barça’s 2-0 win in 2016

Barça are in the Copa del Rey final yet again. Ernesto Valverde’s team have seen off Valencia in the semi-finals of the competition and will face Sevilla in the final after Vincezo Montella’s team defeated Leganés in the other semi-final. The blaugranes will be looking for their 30th Copa del Rey title and their fourth in a row in the competition.

The final will be played on 21 April as announced by the Spanish League and Football Federation last summer. The venue and kick-off time is yet to be decided for a game which has only one precedent in the competition. In the 2015/16 season, Barça and Sevilla met in the final of the Copa de Rey with the blaugranes taking victory a 2-0 victory in the Vicente Calderón stadium thanks to goals from Jordi Alba and Neymar.

With the final being played on weekend in April in which a full league programmes is scheduled, FC Barcelona’s game against Villarreal from week 34 of La Liga will have to be rearranged. The cup final comes after a midweek round of fixtures with the blaugranes travelling to Vigo to take on Celta. All in all, a demanding week in store as they aim to add a 30th Copa del Rey title to their extensive list of honours against one of the best teams in La Liga.
