Lieke Martens the most voted in FIFPro 2017 World XI

The Barça Women player is the first ever from the club to feature in the team of the year selection

FC Barcelona Women's Lieke Martens has been named in the FIFPro 2017 World XI selection, as the most voted for player out of 4,100 from 45 different countries. Martens received 1,251 votes, ahead of players such as Olympique Lyon's Lucy Bronze and Wendie  Renard. Another Barça player, Vicky Losada, was just seven votes off a place in the midfield.

The honour is recognition of an excellent year for Martens on a personal level. She was chosen as Player of the Tournament in the European Championships -a competition which she won with Holland-, The Best by FIFA and Player of the Year by UEFA. This is both her first time in the FIFPro World XI, and the first time a Barça Women player has made the list.

Joining her in the World XI are: Hedvig Lindahl (Chelsea), Lucy Bronze (Olympique Lyon), Nilla Fischer (Wolsfsburg), Wendie Renard (Olympique Lyon), Irene Paredes (PSG), Camille Abily (Olympique Lyon), Dzenifer Marozsán (Olympique Lyon), Marta Vieira (Orlando Pride), Pernille Harder (Wolfsburg) and Alex Morgan (Orlando Pride).
