Piqué becomes third highest scoring defender in Champions League

The defender's goal against Roma takes him to 12, and behind only Roberto Carlos (16) and Iván Helguera (15) on the all-time list

Gerard Piqué is enjoying one of his most complete seasons to date. The centre back isn't only providing excellent defensive performances -he's also contributed with several goals.

Four strikes in LaLiga and one in the Copa del Rey were added to on Wednesday night in the Champions League game against AS Roma, as Piqué found the net in the competition for the first time this term.

The FC Barcelona stalwart has now scored three times against the team from the Italian capital. His previous goals were for Manchester United in 2007/08 and in the 6-1 Barça win in 2015/16.

Piqué has now reached 10 Champions League goals for FC Barcelona, besides his two for Manchester United. This 12 goal total makes him the third highest scoring defender in the history of the competition, behind Roberto Carlos (16) and Iván Helguera (15). Behind him are Sergio Ramos and Panucci, with 11 apiece.
