Josep Maria Bartomeu: 'It's a see you soon'

The president of FC Barcelona has stressed that the departure of Andrés Iniesta does not mean a definitive farewell to the midfielder of La Mancha, 'since the contract that he has for life links him with the Club forever'

Josep Maria Bartomeu talked about Andrés Iniesta's departure, noting that it was a matter that the Club had spoken to the player about over the last few weeks, and that Barça respected their captain's decision: "It is a legitimate decision and we respect it.” At the same time, the president wanted to remind everyone that Iniesta has a contract with Barça for life and that the No.8 can return: "It's not goodbye, it's a see you soon. He has a lifelong contract, he is the only Barça player who has it and I am sure that when he finishes this professional stage he will return."

There were only good words and wishes for Iniesta regarding the new stage of his career: "We wish you great luck and success in this new professional stage,” the president added. "We hope that the youngsters of La Masia will have you as a point of reference. You arrived here at 12 years of age to succeed and you have achieved it.”

Finally, Josep Maria Bartomeu took the opportunity to demand that people continue enjoying Iniesta for the remainder of the season, because of everything that he has contributed to the Club: “He leaves us a great football legacy and as a person he’s loved all over the world. First of all we have to win the League, and then we must pay tribute to him and applaud him. Andrés Iniesta deserves infinite gratitude and this will continue during the coming days.”
