Barça is a benchmark in the world of football thanks to a distinctive and recognisable style of play that has earned the admiration of sports fans everywhere. However, the Club also stands out off the field, particularly through the jerseys it unveils each year.

For this season, Barça features a different typeface for each of its three Nike kits, implementing a pioneering new strategy in the world of football: specifically designing a unique font for the names and numbers on each kit. This approach enhances the overall design of the jerseys and positions Barça as an innovative club off the field also.

Modernist typeface

Inspired by Catalan Modernism, the home blaugrana kit features a new official typeface for the names and numbers on the jersey during the 2026/27 season. An exclusive creation developed specifically for the Club, it was born out of a desire to strengthen the connection between its visual identity, the city of Barcelona, and Catalonia's cultural heritage.

From a formal perspective, the new typeface incorporates some of the most distinctive visual elements of Catalan Modernism. Its stylised forms, vertical proportions, and organic finish evoke the graphic language that defined one of the most influential creative periods in the history of Catalonia. The numbers feature intricate internal linework that adds depth, texture, and dynamism, reinterpreting the artisanal spirit that characterised the Modernist movement in a contemporary fashion. This design strengthens the bond between the Club, the city, and the country, turning every shirt number into a statement of identity.

The men's first team will wear this original typeface in the UEFA Champions League, the Copa del Rey, and the Spanish Super Cup, while in La Liga it will continue to use the official typeface established by the competition organisers. The new typographic identity will also be used across the Club’s other professional teams, as well as its youth academy teams and various sports sections, consolidating a shared visual expression that reinforces the sense of belonging to the world of Barça.

Kobe Bryant for the second kit

The Kobe Bryant typeface created for FC Barcelona's 2026/27 away kit draws inspiration from the graphic universe of basketball and the iconic aesthetic associated with Kobe Bryant, taking the Mamba Mentality as its reference point and reinterpreting it through a more sophisticated and contemporary prism.

The design uses a high-contrast serif typeface with elongated, elegant, and highly sculptural forms. The vertical proportions of the numbers convey a sense of speed, height, and presence, while also connecting with the classic aesthetic of basketball jersey numbers. The gold colour reinforces a premium feel and establishes a direct link with the visual identity of the second kit, while the contrast against the dark background creates an aesthetic associated with luxury sportswear.

Echoes of the past in the third kit

The typeface created for FC Barcelona’s 2026/27 third kit revisits the essence of the classic squad numbers that Nike used throughout the 1990s, a particularly iconic period in the recent history of both football and the Club. The design draws on the bold, compact, and geometric forms characteristic of those numbers, featuring a striking number design with a very recognisable form. The proportions, curves, and finish revive the graphic language of the era whilst at the same time giving it a contemporary interpretation.

Innovation in shirt numbers and jersey names

Innovation has even extended to the printing of the squad numbers and players' names. The numbers on the back feature micro-perforations that enhance breathability, and the designs have been adapted and refined to integrate these perforations seamlessly. The letters and numbers are made using a water-based material rather than plastic, which reduces weight, provides a softer feel, and results in a thinner, more breathable transfer.
