Gavi took a knock to his right knee during yesterday's game with Elche, but medical tests carried out this morning have confirmed that it is only a bruise.

So there is no cause for alarm, and he is expected to return to training shortly.

Monday workout

Meanwhile, the FC Barcelona squad returned to work on Monday following Sunday's emphatic 5-0 victory over Elche. Hansi Flick's side completed their first training session of the week in the morning on the Tito Vilanova pitch, with their first league game at Spotify Camp Nou now on the horizon.

Flick had all the first-team players available. However, those who played the most minutes at the Martínez Valero did recovery exercises, with only Raphinha, Adeyemi, Pedri and Fermín taking to the pitch.

Rodri trains with the group

Meanwhile, the players who did not feature or played fewer minutes did more intensive work. Among them was Rodri, who completed the entire session alongside his team-mates. The other players involved were Balde, Olmo, Brian Fariñas, Cortés, Gordon, Bisiwu, Koundé, Cancelo, Cubarsí, Szczesny, Eder Aller and Hamza Abdelkarim.

Jordi Pesquer did not train after being called up by the Spain Under-18 team.

Next up: Athletic Club

After starting the week with this morning session, Barça will return to training on Tuesday 25 August as they continue their preparations for their first league game at Spotify Camp Nou, against Athletic Club at 9.30pm CEST.
