A centenary such as that of Barça basketball deserves to be celebrated in style. The much-loved blaugrana section reached its 100th anniversary this Monday 24 August 2026, with the milestone marked by an emotional launch event held at the Auditori 1899 exactly 100 years after its foundation.

The event unveiled a programme of around ten events designed to celebrate the section’s history, with a series of tributes, recognitions and other activities paying homage to a century of Barça basketball.

Opening Game on La Mercè

Following Monday’s launch, the first major event will take place exactly one month later, on 24 September. On La Mercè (Barcelona's feast day) the Palau Blaugrana will host the opening EuroLeague game against Anadolu Efes (8.30pm CEST).

The Opening Game will become a major Centenary celebration, with a range of activities for supporters both inside and outside the Palau before the game. A new area dedicated to the centenary will also open at the Museum, while the outside of the pavilion will be given a new look and an artist will create a commemorative mural next to Gate 7. The players will also wear their new EuroLeague jersey for the first time, featuring the centenary logo.

The Centenary Gala

The centrepiece of the celebrations will be the Centenary Gala, with the date still to be confirmed for logistical reasons. All the directors, coaches and players who have played a part in the history of this much-loved section will be invited, along with representatives of the supporters’ groups.

A packed October

October will be a particularly busy month, with a series of community activities as part of the Festa Major de Les Corts, as well as the Centenary Podcast at the Auditori 1899, featuring a number of well-known voices who have either played a part in or witnessed the history of Barça basketball first-hand.

There will also be a presentation of Francesc Fernandez’s book Historia del Barça de Baloncesto (1965-1983).

Remembering the first game at Sòl de Baix

Barça played their first home game on 27 February 1927 at the club’s sports facility on what is now Plaça Sòl de Baix. Exactly 100 years later, on 27 February 2027, a commemorative event will be held at the same location.

A number of other events are planned over the course of the season. These will include activities involving the Barça wheelchair and Barça Genuine teams to mark the International Day of Persons with Disabilities on 3 December, a tribute to members of the coaching staff throughout the section’s history, recognition of Barça women’s basketball to coincide with International Women’s Day, and social initiatives as part of the Sant Jordi celebrations
