A first World Cup for Pau Cubarsí could not have gone better for the young Barça defender. The 19 year old Catalan played every minute of the tournament and after the 1-0 win over Argentina for Spain in the final, he was named Best Young Player at the World Cup.

One goal against

Forming an excellent centre back partnership with Aymeric Laporte, Cubarsí and Spain conceded just one goal in the whole tournament, in the quarter-finals against Belgium. Aside from being named best young player, his appearance against Argentina made him the fourth youngest player ever to feature in the final at 19 years and 178 days, just behind third placed Lamine Yamal, who featured at 19 years and six days.

The world of football has recognised Pau Cubarsí's talent with the award for Best Player and Best Goalkeeper also going to the victorious Spain squad in the shape of Rodri and Unai Simón respectively.
