Agreement reached between FC Barcelona and Umoja Gibson for the United States player to join the Barça basketball team. The 28-year-old, 1.85 metre point guard is set to sign a contract for two seasons until 30 June 2028. He will officially join once he has had his medical after leaving his former club, Cedevita Olimpja Ljubljana.

Born in Texas on 4 July 1998, he will have just turned 28 years old on joining Barça to help with playmaking. Gibson comes to play at the Palau after becoming one of the stars of the 2025/26 season in the Eurocup while playing for the Slovenian club, having made 20 appearances with an average of 15.9 points, 4.9 assists and a Performance Index Rating of 17.2.

Professional debut in Germany

After learning his trade in university sides at North Texas (2017-20), Oklahoma (2020-22) and De Paul (2022/23) in the United States of America, he left to go to Germany in summer 2023. He made his debut for BG Gottingen in the 2023/24 season, playing 32 games in the Bundesliga, averaging 14.4 puntos, 4.9 assists, with a Performance Index Rating of 14.3.

Two seasons in the ABA League with two different teams

His second club in Europe were Spartak Subotica in Serbia. During the 2024/25 season, he averaged 9 points, 3 assists, with a Performance Index Rating of 8.6 in 26 ABA League games. His best scoring performance came against KRKA with 31 points.

He then continued in the ABA league during the 2025/26 season for Cedevita in Ljubljana, where he put in his best performance to date, precisely against his former team, scoring 30 points, providing 5 assists, with a Performance Index Rating of 37. He also notably provided 10 assists in the game against KK Igokea. His overall stats notably increased, and over just one more game than the season before, he averaged 15.8 points, 5.3 assists, with a Performance Index Rating of 17.5.
