PB Camprodon hosts Osona and Ripollès penyes for 45th Anniversary
Penya Barcelonista Camprodon celebrated its 45th anniversary on Sunday by hosting the 21st Osona and Ripollès Barça Penyes Meeting, a day of fellowship that brought together representatives of 14 penyes from the area, along with a number of institutional representatives.
The event was attended by FC Barcelona Vice-President Antonio Escudero and Antonio Olmo, a member of the Board of Directors of the FC Barcelona Players' Association. Also present were the Mayor of Camprodon, Xavier Guitart; the Mayor of Molló, Josep Coma; the President of PB Camprodon, Jaume Vila; and the Osona and Ripollès delegate to the Penyes Advisory Council, Dionís Crusellas.
The day began at the penya headquarters, where the FC Barcelona representatives signed the Book of Honour before travelling to Molló. In the Ripollès town, the attending penyes took part in a parade of banners, followed by an official reception at the Town Hall, which included an exchange of gifts and the signing of the municipal Book of Honour.
The celebration then continued with a lunch at Restaurant Calitxó. During the meal, the President of PB Camprodon welcomed those in attendance, while representatives of the penya movement, the FC Barcelona Players' Association and the local authorities highlighted the penya's long-standing history and its role in promoting community life in the Camprodon Valley. The closing address was delivered by Antonio Escudero.
Officially founded on 30 May 1981, Penya Barcelonista Camprodon currently has 375 members, most of whom are from towns and villages in the Camprodon Valley. However, its origins date back to 1979, when a group of local supporters organised a trip to Basel to watch Barça defeat Fortuna Düsseldorf in the European Cup Winners' Cup final. That experience is regarded as the starting point of an organisation that has formed part of FC Barcelona's official register of penyes since August 1981.
