Five interesting stats ahead of the Spanish Super Cup final
The time has come. A Clásico, and in a final too. Barça and Real Madrid are set to face off to see who become Spanish Super Cup champions. There are always a thousand and one things to talk about a match between the blaugranes and the all-whites, and even more so when a trophy is on the line. Countless things can be highlighted before the match, but to get the ball roiling ahead of the big game tonight in Yeddah (8.00pm CET, 10.00pm local time), here are five interesting stats ahead of the final.
The same final four times
This final is hotly awaited, but this is not the first time that Barça and Real Madrid play for the Spanish Super Cup title. It is in fact the fourth time in a row that a Clásico will determine the winner. Barça won two of the last three (2023 and 2025) and Real Madrid won in 2024. All of them were played in Saudi Arabia, with the first two in Riyadh, and the last one and this one in Yeddah.
Who wins the Super Cup wins LaLiga
Those last three Super Cups have actually seen a pattern emerge. Winning the Super Cup itself gives a boost for the second half of the season, but even more so if it is a Clásico. That seems to be the case as the team that won the last three Super Cups ended the season as LaLiga winners. Winning a trophy against your biggest rival really lays down a marker and Barça are looking to do just that.
The leader against the challenger
This game sees the team with the most wins in the competition, Barça, against their closest challenger, Real Madrid. Whatever happens, the blaugranes will continue to rule in the Super Cup, as they have 15 wins ahead of the match compared to 13 for the all-whites. Flick's side will be wanting to come home with number 16.
Sixth Clásico for Flick...
After a season and a half at the helm, the German is about to experience his sixth Clásico as Barça coach. He won all four last season and the only defeat was this season, the 2-1 at the Santiago Bernabéu stadium. Interestingly, the only player to start all those matches was Cubarsí.
... who is a final specialist
What's more, the fact it is a final is a good sign. Last season he defeated them in the Super Cup final (5-2) and in the Copa del Rey final (3-2), but Hansi Flick has won every final in his career as a coach so far. This will be his eighth. Let's hope his run continues.
