FC Barcelona are through to the Spanish Super Cup final after brushing aside Athletic Club in the semi-finals, in a match dominated by the blaugranes, who delivered a highly convincing display at both ends of the pitch.

The result (and the manner in which it was achieved) left Hansi Flick a very satisfied man. Speaking after the game, the German coach was full of praise for his players. “I’m very happy with the work we’ve done" he said. "We played with a very good mentality and a great attitude, and I really liked the Barça I saw.”

Flick was particularly pleased with his side’s focus throughout the match: “We were very connected and fully in the game for the full 90 minutes. We played well and in an enjoyable way ... We played with confidence and managed the game well. It’s very good to see because it gives us a lot of confidence, although this was the semi-final, and the final will be a different chapter.”

“We were well positioned and I liked how connected we were. That shows the quality we have on the pitch, and I’m very satisfied."

Finally, Flick pointed to defensive solidity as one of the key positives of the night. “We’ve kept another clean sheet, which is very good. We produced a great team performance, and that’s the most important thing, both in attack and in defence.”

With this victory secured, Barça now turn their attention to Sunday’s final, aiming to lift another trophy and confirm their excellent run of form.
