Real Madrid in Copa de la Reina quarter finals
Barça Femení have discovered the next obstacle in their quest to retain the Copa de la Reina. In the quarter-final draw, the blaugranes were paired with none other than Real Madrid, who will host Pere Romeu’s side in a single-leg tie to be played on 3, 4 or 5 February in Madrid.
A repeat of last season’s semi-final
After seeing off Alavés 6-1 away from home in the round of 16, the draw has produced a high-voltage clash against the all-whites. It will be the second Clásico of the season, following the emphatic 4–0 league win at the Estadi Olímpic. The two sides also met in last season’s Copa de la Reina, when Barça emerged victorious in the semi-finals with an 8–1 aggregate scoreline, after a 5-0 win at the Alfredo Di Stéfano and a 3–1 victory at the Estadi Johan Cruyff.
In the final, a Clàudia Pina brace secured the club’s 11th Copa de la Reina title. Now, there is no objective other than adding a 12th and continuing to reign supreme in the competition. But first, the eternal rivals must be overcome.
