Eric signs contract renewal with Barça to 2031
A very special day for Eric García. The blaugrana who came through La Masia has enjoyed a dream day, really enjoying the event to celebrate his contract signing that is set to keep him at FC Barcelona until 2031. On a day when the highly adaptable player has been the focus, Eric attended the Spotify Camp Nou offices after morning training with the team to complete the formalities of a contract renewal he has achieved through real effort.
His family and agent were with him, and the Club was represented by president Joan Laporta, plus first vice-president Rafa Yuste; director for the football area Anderson Luís de Souza "Deco"; the coordinator for the football area Bojan Krkić and the remaining members of the Sporting Commission.
Eric Garcia has become a key player for Hansi Flick and has played in numerous positions. Whether he plays at right back, centre back, or defensive midfielder, he always gives his all and performs to a high level. A La Masia graduate, he had two spells away at Manchester City and Girona, but the Catalan has earned the affection of the FC Barcelona fans since his return.
Pure blaugrana spirit, the Catalan defender has made 22 appearances so far this 2025/26 season. Beyond his excellent ability to bring the ball out from the back and his superb defensive contributions, he has also scored one goal in the win against Oviedo at the Carlos Tartiere. For now, his highest scoring tally came last season with five goals, many of them vital to memorable comebacks, such as the one in the Clásico at the Estadi Olimpic.
But Eric still has a lot left to give, and he will undoubtedly show it, at the very least, until 2031. “We have many years of success ahead of us,” he said at the signing ceremony.
Eric Garcia: 'Happy to keep living the dream'
Eric García added that he is “very happy to stay many more years at FC Barcelona ... I've been living the dream I’ve had since I was a child, to succeed at Barça and win many trophies.”
The centre-back recalled that before leaving for Manchester City, his goal was already to establish himself in the first team, and that returning allowed him to “start again with that same dream ... My ambition now is to be able to play here my whole life.”
“I’ve always known my qualities; in life there are good moments and others when things don’t go your way, but now I feel good, both personally and with the team. ... But you have to be consistent: one day you can be brilliant and the next you’re not. When things go badly, you have to stay calm and keep working.”
The defender also spoke about his versatility: “I’ve always been a centre-back, but I feel comfortable at full-back and I’ve gradually adapted to the number six position. If you want to play for Barça, you have to adapt to where the coach needs you and do your best.”
Looking ahead, Eric was ambitious yet realistic: “There is still a lot to improve, both individually and collectively. We have a very young group with room to grow, and we have many successful years ahead of us.... For me, the captaincy is not an objective, it comes naturally. I’ve always liked helping my teammates, and it comes out spontaneously.”
Finally, he reaffirmed his self-belief: “I’ve always believed I could be a starter at Barça. Now I’m enjoying regular playing time, and if one day I don’t get it, I won't stop believing.”
