FC Barcelona’s youth football teams were formally presented on Monday in an event held at the Estadi Johan Cruyff. The squads of every La Masia side (both boys’ and girls’ teams) paraded across the pitch in front of parents and relatives. From the youngest age group (U8) to the oldest (Barça Atlètic and Women’s B): a total of 284 boys and 138 girls.
The event was led by FC Barcelona president Joan Laporta, who was accompanied by the sporting vice-president, Rafael Yuste; board member responsible for Youth Football, Joan Soler; and the board member for Women’s Football, Xavier Puig. Also present were all members of the youth football technical structure, headed by its director, José Ramón Alexanco, and by the sporting director of Barça Women, Marc Vivés.
Attending as well were the coordinator of boys’ youth football, Andrés Manzano; the coordinator of boys’ 11-a-side football, Sergi Milà; the coordinator of 7-a-side football, Marc Serra; and the coordinator of girls’ youth Football, Jordi Ventura.
The teams took to the pitch one by one, from the youngest to the oldest. Waiting for them were the president and a very special guest: CAT, the club’s mascot, who celebrated its first birthday this weekend and posed with every team before the speeches began.
Time for speeches
With all the players lined up along the sideline of the Estadi Johan Cruyff, Abril Ruiz, from the Girls’ U14B team, and Unax Hernández, from the Boys’ U15 team, opened the speeches, speaking on behalf of all the players present. After them, José Ramón Alexanco took to the microphone. Finally, president Laporta addressed the players and their families. He congratulated them on their work and on defending the Barça colours with the values taught at the club. He also encouraged them to keep working hard to continue achieving success. He emphasised that the personal development of every player is always the priority, and once again praised their efforts, urging them to keep working hard.
The event concluded with a group photo, after which all the players headed to the La Masia gardens to take their team photos with the president and the corresponding directors.
