Bayern 74-75 FC Barcelona: More than a win
A much needed win for Barça came in the shape of a 75-74 win over Bayern Munich in Bavaria in the Euroleague. The victory was based on solid defence with Oscar Orellana as coach and the blauganes now have a 6-4 record in Europe this season.
After the departure of Joan Peñarroya as coach, this was an important test for the blaugranes with Oscar Orellana acting as caretaker boss. A great first half in the SAP Garden in Munich laid the foundation for the win for Barça.
Great defense
With the defense more solid, the blaugranes were able to go on the front foot on offense and Willy Hernangómez , Satoransky and Clyburn starting to click and at the end of the first quarter the visitors led 20-15.
In the second period the blaugranes improved further with as Laprovittola joined the fray to stretch their lead to 31-19. Bayern fought back to 31-24 but at half time Barça held an impressive 43-32 advantage against the Germans.
Munich fight back
In the second half Bayern showed their character by mounting an impressive comeback. Former blaugrana Da Silva played his part as the home side pulled it back to 52-52. Three pointers from Laprovittola and Clyburn gave Barça a slight advantage at 61-57 going into the final quarter.
The fourth quarter saw both sides confident of taking the win and at 74-68 ahead, it looked to be heading Barça's way. Nevertheless, Bayern clawed it back to 75-73 and with two free throws late on the Germans had the chance to take the game into overtime. Dinwiddie scored the first but the second bounced out to allow Barça to take the win, an important boost before another Euroleague fixture on Friday in the Palau against Virtus Bologna.
