The 4-2 win away to Celta brought more than just three points. Alongside Lewandowski’s hat-trick and fresh assists from Rashford, there were statistics to savour on the touchline too. The German coach has now reached 50 LaLiga matches at the Barça helm.

Three more points, four more goals and five more offsides provoked at Balaídos add to a record that began on 17 August 2024, the day Flick took charge of his first league game for Barça, a comeback victory at Valencia. It was the first of many high points in the blaugrana dugout.

37 wins

It sounds easy. It isn’t. Flick’s Barça have won the vast majority of their league fixtures, recording a 74% win rate so far, a figure surpassed by only one coach in the club’s history. Luis Enrique claimed 80% wins in his first 50 league matches. Flick therefore sits second in the all-time list, level with Xavi and ahead of illustrious names like Helenio Herrera and Pep Guardiola (both on 72%).

Of those 50 games, Barça have taken all three points in 37. The rest comprise five draws and just eight defeats. It’s close to a perfect run, with 28 wins last season, a campaign that delivered Flick’s first LaLiga title. This season they have already notched nine victories and remain firmly on Real Madrid’s heels, three points back.

134 goals scored

It’s rare to see a Flick side fail to score. One of the defining traits of this team is its attacking hunger, reflected in 134 goals across those 50 league games, an average of 2.7 per match. That places him fifth among Barça managers for most goals in their first 50 league outings, behind Helenio Herrera (148), Luis Enrique (139), Juan José Nogués (138) and Guardiola (135).

Only twice have Barça drawn a blank: the 1–0 defeat at Real Sociedad and a 1-0 slip-up against Leganés at Montjuïc. Otherwise, Flick’s men have served up firepower week after week. Robert Lewandowski tops the list of 17 different league scorers under Flick, with 31 goals. Raphinha (21) and Ferran Torres (15) complete the podium.

Lamine Yamal: the chief creator

Another standout in the attacking department is Lamine Yamal. The teenage prodigy is Barça’s leading provider of assists in this sequence of games, with 17 to his name. Raphinha again features prominently with 11, while Ferran Torres and Fermín (ever reliable in Flick’s plans) follow with seven apiece.

Pedri: the minutes leader

There’s no question about it: Pedri has been and remains indispensable for Flick across these 50 games. Quality, graft and intelligence, the midfielder has dazzled under the German, who has trusted him relentlessly. With 47 appearances and 3,740 minutes, he is the most-used player of the Flick era. Kounde, Lamine Yamal, Raphinha, Cubarsí and Lewandowski follow closely behind.

Nine comebacks

Giving up is not in this team’s vocabulary. Flick has instilled character and a winning mentality in a side that has embraced the epic. Last season Barça made a habit of comebacks, delighting supporters who believe right to the final whistle, turning deficits into victories nine times.

Six came last season. The first (at Mestalla) opened the floodgates, followed by turnarounds against Rayo Vallecano, Atlético Madrid, Celta, Valladolid and Real Madrid. This season has already brought three more, against Levante, Oviedo and Real Sociedad. In total, those nine comebacks have yielded 27 points and proved this Barça never accept defeat as inevitable.

Almost five offsides forced per game

Flick has revived the art of the offside trap. One of his signatures is catching the opposition forward line off guard. It’s a tactic he has no intention of abandoning, as he admitted before the draw in Bruges, and it has repeatedly turned dangerous attacks into Barça breaks.

Last season Barça’s high line forced 181 offsides; this season they have added another 59. In total, that’s 240 offsides forced in Flick’s 50 league games, an average of 4.8 per match, enough to drive opponents mad and to lift the blaugrana faithful to their feet each time the flag goes up.

A formula for success

So far, the numbers show a Barça that works (and wins) under Hansi Flick. With one league title already in the bag, the German is aiming for two out of two. The road ahead is long and demanding, but Barça will give everything, week after week, with Flick in the dugout. He has built a side that competes to the last and has the quality to hurt opponents at both ends of the pitch.
