Álex Abrines experienced a special moment this Friday before the start of the EuroLeague match against Real Madrid. Barça paid tribute to the Mallorcan player, who spent 10 seasons with the first team and retired this summer after a career marked by consistency, commitment, and his leadership in the locker room as team captain.

The ceremony took place on the court at the Palau, minutes before tip-off, involving the Barça team as well as former teammates who shared his journey. Among those present were Sergi Martínez, Ricky Rubio, Ante Tomic, Adam Hanga, Víctor Claver, Pau Ribas, Boštjan Nachbar, and Víctor Sada. Their presence highlighted the collective spirit of a period in which the Mallorcan player took on a leadership role and eventually became captain.

Abrines received a symbolic captain’s armband at center court, presented by the current captain, Tomas Satoransky. He also received a framed Barça jersey from his former teammates. Abrines watched the game from the Palau’s VIP box. During halftime, Josep Cubells presented him with a special gift commemorating his time as a Barça player and highlighted that Abrines will always be welcome at the Palau Blaugrana.

A career with standout numbers

Abrines played 660 official matches wearing the Barça jersey, a figure that places him among the players with the most appearances in the modern history of the club’s basketball section. Only Juan Carlos Navarro (1,139) and Ante Tomic (593) rank above or close to him in the documented participation leaderboard.

Over his 10 seasons, Abrines played 339 ACB games, 267 EuroLeague games, 19 Copa del Rey matches, 19 Catalan League games, and 16 Supercup games.
Throughout his career, he won 15 titles across leagues, cups, supercups, and Catalan leagues, divided into two stages: the first before his move to the NBA with the Oklahoma City Thunder, and the second after his return at age 25.

On the court, Abrines was known for his proficiency in outside shooting—scoring 474 three-pointers in the ACB, the third-highest total in club history—and for his consistent defensive efforts, especially in end-of-possession situations.
