Atlètico Madrid 0-6 Barça: Irresistible once again
A tremendous win for Barça Women in Alcalá de Henares, overcoming Atlético Madrid 0-6 in the Liga F matchday seven fixture. Brugts, Patri, Pajor, Alexia, Vicky López and Laia Aleixandri scored the goals against a side who came into the game unbeaten and in second place in the league.
Brugts grabs early goal
Wearing the second kit in the Liga F for the first time this season, Barça made the best possible start. A prolongation of the first attack after three defensive blocks by the home side saw Esmee Brugts take a touch and fire past Lola Gallardo with her right to open the scoring (0-1, min 2).
Cata Coll prevents equaliser
The home side had probably their best chance of the game after the early goal, a quick counter attack leaving Gio Garbelini one-on-one with Cata Coll, but the blaugrana keeper stood strong and saved her right footed effort.
Patri scores second before the break
The blaugranes then settled into their familiar style to maintain the pressure on the red and whites, relying on counter attacks to relieve the pressure. All the same, the best chances fell to the visitors through Pina, Alexia and Mapi, but it was Patri Guijarro who placed a great left foot shot from distance past the diving Gallardo (0-2).
Pajor and Alexia confirm the outcome
The blaugranes continued where they left off after the restart, and striker Ewa Pajor got her goal from an Aitana Bonmatí assist from the right (0-3, min 53). The home side were tiring now and the best goal of the came soon after, Graham Hansen, Aitana and Alexia all with first time passes for the latter to score (0-4, min 63).
Coach Romeu then rang the changes with Aleixandri, Vicky López and Salma Paralluelo all coming on. Clara Serrajordi had replaced Patri earlier in the game, but she unfortunately had to be substituted herself by Kika Nazareth due to knock to the knee.
Vicky and Aleixandri score to seal the big win
Vicky López then finished after a delicious first time pass across the box by Salma, after good work by Alexia to set her free (0-5, min 85) and there was still time for Aleixandri to score her first goal in blaugrana, making the most of the rebound in the area after a free kick (0-6, min 90+7).
So a great win for FC Barcelona Women in Alcalá de Henares, and next up, a trip to play Roma on 15 October in the UEFA Women’s Champions League League Phase at Estadio Tre Fontane (kickoff 9.00pm CEST).
