Once again, Flick’s Barça has risen in the face of adversity. With Saturday’s comeback at Levante, when the they turned a 2-0 deficit into a 3-2 victory, the German coach has now recorded ten comebacks as Barça manager. In their very first opportunity this season, the culers managed to overturn the scoreline, adding to the nine achieved last season, in 2024/25.

Two early examples

The beginning of this campaign mirrors that of the previous one, Flick’s first. This year, in just two league matches we have already seen the first comeback, but the same scenario unfolded last season. Flick made his official debut by overturning a 1-0 deficit at Valencia to win 2-1. Two weeks later, in their next away fixture, they repeated both the comeback and the scoreline, this time against Rayo, who Barça face next this year.

Super Cup and Champions League

That fighting spirit until the very end has not only been on show in La Liga. It has also appeared in European competitions and in highly adverse situations. In January, Real Madrid were the victims in the Spanish Super Cup, losing 5-2 after taking the lead. And in the Champions League, also in January, came the most spectacular comeback of all. From trailing 4-2, Flick’s men turned the game around against Benfica to win 5-4.

Madrid clubs on the receiving end

Real Madrid also suffered two other comebacks at Barça’s hands. The most significant came in the Copa del Rey final, when Kounde’s late goal secured the title 3-2. The other was in the league, where a 2-0 deficit at home was transformed into a 4-3 victory.

Atlético Madrid and Celta were among the teams to suffer after going two goals ahead. Against Diego Simeone’s side, the blaugrana turned a 2-0 deficit at the Metropolitano into a 4-2 win in a crucial match for the title race. Meanwhile, Celta saw Flick’s men prevail 4-3 after leading 3-1.

Later in the league, with the title almost in the bag, Flick’s side staged another comeback at the José Zorrilla, beating Valladolid 2-1.

Now, in a new season, history has repeated against Levante. Once again, the team have shown their capacity to respond and fight back in adverse situations, producing comebacks when they are needed most.
