Barça Women’s tour of Mexico shows no signs of slowing down. The side, deep into their preseason preparations, now have their first friendly on the horizon (4:30am CEST, Friday into Saturday) against a selection of the best players from the Liga BBVA MX Femenil.

The match will be held in Monterrey, prompting the squad to leave Mexico City for a few hours as they head north. Before departing, the team held their second training session of the tour at Club América’s COAPA training complex.

After lunch at the same facility, the Barça travelling party boarded their flight to Monterrey. Upon arrival at the team hotel, head coach Pere Romeu and players Alexia Putellas and Claudia Pina met with the media, as did opposing coach Pedro Martínez and players Jenni Hermoso and Charlyn Corral — both set to feature for the Liga MX Femenil All-Stars in the upcoming showdown.

Stimulating Mexico

Both the coach and his players are eager to return to action in front of what promises to be a passionate local crowd. “It’s always a really exciting feeling to play here,” said Romeu, adding, “I’m very happy with how the first few weeks of preseason have gone.”

Claudia Pina echoed the sentiment: “People in Mexico have always treated us so well" she said. "It’s always special to come back.”

Meanwhile, Alexia Putellas expressed her joy at reconnecting with familiar faces: “We continue to feel the warmth of an incredibly dedicated fanbase. We’re delighted to be here, and especially to face some former teammates we’re really looking forward to seeing again.”
