Recent record against Gamper debutants
The Estrella Damm Gamper Festival is getting closer. On August 10, the visitors are Como 1907, the Italian side managed by Cesc Fàbregas, who will be joined by two other former Barça players: Sergi Roberto and Álex Valle. The match will be a special occasion for both teams. For the home side, it marks their official presentation before the start of the new season; and for the Lombardy side, it will be their first-ever appearance in the Gamper.
Looking back over the past 15 years, FC Barcelona has faced eight teams making their debut in this tournament — and the record is very much in their favour. Of those eight matches, the blaugrana have won seven.
Defeat last year
The only loss came in last season’s edition against Monaco at the Estadi Olímpic, when the Monegasques claimed the trophy 3-0 in their first-ever appearance. But aside from that result, all the other games went Barça’s way — from the 6–0 win over UNAM Pumas in 2022/23, to the 5–0 victory against Napoli in 2011/12.
In between, Barça also beat Club León in 2014/15 (6–0), Roma in 2015/16 (3–0), Chapecoense in 2017/18 (5–0), Arsenal in 2019/20 (2–1), and Elche in 2020/21 (1–0). All of these clubs were debutants in the Joan Gamper Trophy and none have returned to take part in the tournament since.
Awesome stats
When it comes to the stats, Barça’s dominance is overwhelming. In addition to winning seven out of eight titles, the culers have scored 28 goals and conceded just four. These figures give Hansi Flick’s side plenty of reason for optimism heading into the 60th edition of the Joan Gamper Trophy, and for once again turning the occasion into a true Barça celebration.
