Recently inaugurated at CASA SEAT for their fifth anniversary and open to the public until 4 September, the "Creating film characters" exhibition celebrating artistic talent sees FC Barcelona involved through the mascot CAT. The exhibition brings together a selection of the most notable works by the prestigious international studio Grangel Studio in Barcelona for the first time, for their 40th anniversary. The studio is known for their contribution to animation in film and they created the FC Barcelona mascot too.

The mascot CAT symbolises Barça values, connecting particularly with younger fans, and has a very special place in the exhibition as one of the Grangel creations. Through this initiative, FC Barcelona reaffirm their commitment to culture, art, and local talent, positioning their mascot as a living symbol of Catalan creativity with a global outlook. It also represents recognition of the collective work between the Club and the world of illustration and animation by Grangel Studio, who were founded very close to the Spotify Camp Nou by Jordi and Carles Grangel. Once again, Barça show they are much more than a club – they are a platform for innovation and artistic expression with deep roots in Barcelona and a cross-border impact.

“Creating film characters” offers an immersive experience through sketches, original pieces, and creative processes, paying tribute to decades of creative work that have brought memorable characters to life on the big screen… and now an iconic figure in sport in CAT. Grangel Studio have worked with DreamWorks, Warner Bros, Sony and Universal Pictures, among others, also creating major hits such as Madagascar, Kung Fu Panda, Corpse Bride, Spirit and Pinocchio. Their long career has seen them collaborate with renowned directors such as Guillermo del Toro, Steven Spielberg and Tim Burton, and they won a Hollywood Oscar for Pinocchio and an Annie for Spirit.

The sports mascot with most followers in the world

The Grangel brothers' work has been key to conveying FC Barcelona values visually in a mascot that now has thousands of followers on social media (@catculer on Instagram and @cat_culer on TikTok) and is fully immersed in the Club's institutional, sporting, and social activities. CAT is now a fixture for FC Barcelona at games and activities, with an established role within the Club ecosystem.

There is constant interaction with the men's and women's football teams, and it has taken part in events like the Mobile World Congress, days at the Palau Blaugrana, the handball Final Four 2025 in Cologne, plus the Copa del Rey final in Seville. The success of the mascot CAT and the investment by Barça into this new brand asset has created connections with new audiences and enthralled fans everywhere.
