A very blaugrana Euro 2025 begins
It’s time for international football. From July 2 to 27, the Women's European Championship will be happening in Switzerland, with FC Barcelona and its 18 players taking centre stage. With such a strong blaugrana presence there are plenty of must-watch matches to look forward to.
Barça duel to start
While the tournament opens on July 2 with an Iceland v Finland match at 6 pm, the blaugrana debut won’t be far behind, with a Switzerland v Norway clash the same evening at 9 pm. Young Barça player Sydney Schertenleib will represent the host nation, facing off against Norway, which includes Caroline Graham Hansen.
Spain open against Kika Nazareth
The action on July 3 begins with Belgium v Italy at 6 pm, featuring Giulia Dragoni, who was on loan from Barça last season. At 9 pm comes the headline match: Spain vs Portugal. Both squads feature Barça players—in fact, it’s the match with the highest number of culers, with 12 in total. Spain, coached by Montse Tomé, has 11 blaugrana players and is gearing up for its tournament debut against their Iberian neighbors. On the Portuguese side, Kika Nazareth will go head-to-head with many of her Barça teammates.
Two more Barça players debut on July 4
Friday also features two matches with strong blaugrana presence. At 6 pm, Denmark take on Sweden, with Fridolina Rolfö expected to appear for the Swedes. A few hours later, at 9 pm, Poland—represented by Ewa Pajor—will face Germany. Pajor will aim to defeat the current runners-up to get off to a strong start in the competition.
The final Barça debut comes on July 5, with Esmee Brugts making her first appearance for the Netherlands against Wales. The young blaugrana midfielder will also be aiming to take all three points.
The most blaugrana Euro yet
With 18 Barça players participating in Euro 2025, this is the club’s highest level of representation in the tournament’s history, surpassing the 14 players who took part in Euro 2022. In previous editions, Barça contributed 10 players in the 2017 tournament and 6 in the 2013 championship.
