FC Barcelona have set a remarkable record by winning the domestic treble of Liga. Copa and Supercopa not just once but twice in the same season. Because after the men completed their full set with the league title, the women have now done likewise by beating Atlético Madrid to win the Copa de la Reina. Six out of six. The first time Barça have done it, and hardly surprisingly, also the first time any team has done it.

Double double

In fact, the 'just' winning the men's and women's league and club double would have been a first-time achievement in itself. But the accomplishment is even grander when the two Super Cups are added to the equation.

Similarities

The men and women had remarkably similar campaigns. Not only did they both win the league ahead of Real Madrid, but in both competitions it was Atlético Madrid and Athletic Club who finished third and fourth.

In both Super Cups, Barça beat Real Madrid in the final. In the cup, the men beat Atlético Madrid in the semi-final and Real in the final, while the women played the same two teams, but the other way round.

Almost four x four

And both teams also came frustratingly close to adding the European title to their list of conquests. The men were within minutes of reaching the final against Inter Milan before it all went horribly wrong, while the women made it to their own final, but ended up suffering a somewhat unexpected defeat to Arsenal.
