Hansi Flick: 'Time to celebrate'
Barça are league champions. And so is Hansi Flick, in his very first season on the blaugrana bench. After lifting the Super Cup and the Copa del Rey, the German has closed out an amazing campaign with a domestic treble, capped by winning “the most honest title,” as he called La Liga in an earlier press conference.
Blaugrana family
Speaking in a champions’ T-shirt after the 2–0 win in Cornellà, Flick offered a broad look back at the season as a whole, beyond the derby itself. The decisive factor, he said, has been “the family we’ve created. Everyone works with passion and knows their role is important. That has helped me enormously in reaching our goals.”
More than that, “the dressing-room atmosphere… I’ve never experienced anything like it. Everyone looks out for one another, and that’s unique ... Now, it’s time to celebrate. We wanted to respect Espanyol’s fans, so we celebrated in the locker room, as we should. Tomorrow, at the victory parade, I’ll stay a bit in the background. When I see people happy and smiling, I’m happy. Let everyone enjoy the parade. It’s my first one here. I only had one with the German national team, and I’m really looking forward to it.”
Remembering Dr. Miñarro
Flick refused to single out any individual for this title, neither himself nor Lamine Yamal, because, he insisted, “we’re a team. We work very hard, and everyone gives their best.”
But he did offer a heartfelt tribute to Dr Carles Miñarro: “He’s looking down on us from above, and I’m sure he’s very proud. We haven’t forgotten him. He was a big part of our team and will always have a place in our hearts.”
