Barça's defence continues to break records

The blaugranes now hold the clean sheet record after 25 league games

Records continue to be broken in LaLiga by Xavi Hernández and his squad. The 0-1 win against Athletic Club keeps Barça 9 points ahead of second-placed Real Madrid - the defence forming the bedrock in the league to earn the points from tough games.

Defensive solidity

Barça are racking up the defensive stats this season and now hold two new LaLiga records. Firstly, Barça holds the record for the most clean sheets in league history after 25 matchdays.

No one has managed to score past Marc-André ter Stegen in 19 league games so far, surpassing the 18 clean sheets by Deportivo La Coruña during the 1993/94 season, with the Galicians going on to total 19 for that season.

Secondly, Barça have only conceded eight goals in the 25 games played so far, another record as no other team previously conceded so few goals at this point in the season. The record was held jointly by Deportivo La Coruña in the 1993/94 season and Atlético Madrid in the 1990/91 season, both teams conceding 10 goals in 25 games.

Single goal victories

Another strong point is that this Xavi team can defend a lead. Barça have won 11 league games by a single goal this season, similar stats to the Johan Cruyff team during the 1990/91 season, who won 12 games by a single goal.

Of the current team's single goal victories, nine have been either 1-0 or 0-1, a first for Barça. The LaLiga record is shared by three teams with 11, Atlético Madrid in 2017/18, Sevilla in 2020/21 and Valencia in 1988/89.
