Three Clásicos in one month... Again!

This is actually the seventh time that FC Barcelona and Real Madrid have met in such close succession

In the space of just 35 days, FC Barcelona and Real Madrid are due to meet no fewer than three times. It may seem like something totally unique, but it's actually something that has already happened six times before.

2019 and 2011 in close memory

The most recent example was 2019, when in February and March, the famous rivals also met in two legs of a Copa del Rey semi-final with a league game at the Bernabéu in between. That was in just 25 days, and Barça did very nicely. They qualified for the cup final and won 1-0 away in the league.

In 2011, there were three Clásicos in just 18 days! That's the all-time record for closeness. That was in three different competitions. The league game was drawn, Madrid won in the cup and Barça qualified for the Champions League final.

Two more in the 80s

Early in 1988/89, the teams played the two legs of the Spanish Super Cup, won by Madrid, and also met in La Liga at the Bernabéu, which was another loss for Barça. All in the space of 32 days.

And in 1982/83, they met in the finals of the both the Copa del Rey and the old League Cup, which was a two-legged affair. In just 26 days, Barça added not one but two new trophies to their collection.

Early cases

There were also three Clásicos in 26 days in late 1960. Barça famously beat Real Madrid in the European Cup, also the all-whites got their revenge with a high-scoring 5-3 win in Barcelona.

The other case goes all the way back to 1916, when there were an extraordinary FOUR games in just 21 days. All of these were in the cip semi-finals, when after the sides won one leg each, there was the need for two further replays. Those were different times!
