FC Barcelona to face CF Intercity in the Copa del Rey

Barça to face the team from San Juan de Alicante in the last 32 of the tournament on 4 January at 9pm CET

FC Barcelona and now know their opponents in their opening tie of this season's Copa del Rey. The blaugranes will face CF Intercity, a team from the Primera RFEF, the third tier of Spanish Football. The game will be played on Wednesday 4 January at 9pm CET and will be a one off tie that will take place at the ground of the Hércules CF -José Rico Pérez-.

Barça will be aiming to win the trophy for the 32nd time in their history and extend their record as the most successful club in Copa del Rey history. 

First ever meeting

The Copa del Rey tie will be the first ever meeting between FC Barcelona and CF Intercity in official competition. The club from Alicante have reached the last 32 after disposing of CA Cirbonero in the first round and then Segunda División club Mirandés in the next. 

Nevertheless, Intercity have hosted the blaugranes previously this season when they faced a Barça Atlètic side who are in the same group in the Primera RFEF. The game between Rafa Màrquez's team and Barça's Copa del Rey opponents ended 0-0. 

The CF Intercity squad has several names who have a blaugrana past: Guillem Jaime, Franck Angong, Oriol Soldevila, Carlos Carmona, Cristian Herrera, Benja, Xemi and Pol Roigé have all featured for Barça at some level during their footballing careers.
