Sevilla 0-3 FC Barcelona: Simply spectacular!

A fabulous all-round display, with Raphinha, Lewandowski and Eric Garcia delivering the goals that put the Catalans second in the table

FC Barcelona have continued their brilliant run of form by defeating Sevilla at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan. Peculiarly, the home side looked well on top for the first 20 minutes, but once Barça had found a goal, there was absolutely no stopping them.

Raphinha, Lewandowski and Eric Garcia scored the goals as the Catalans romped home, with the home side totally overpowered and unable to find any answer to the rampant force they were up against.

Barça looked efficient in every department, and showed just what a variety of weapons they have at their disposal. The defending is solid (just one goal conceded all season), the midfield is as effective as ever, and the guys up front are doing everything they are supposed to do.

The performances are just getting better and better and things are boding very well for what could be a very enjoyable 2022/23 season.

Hold onto your seats. This is looking very nice indeed.

Raphinha opener

Barça took the lead on 20 minutes. Dembélé initiated a fine counter attack and a goal-line clearance off Lewandowski landed straight on the head of Raphinha, who was thus able to celebrate his first competitive goal for his new club.

The goal was all the more gratifying because until then Sevilla had been dominating. In fact, they would have been leading had it not been for the offside flag and Ter Stegen’s gloves.

Lewa-wow-ski

We had a different game now, and it wouldn’t be long before the Catalans were further ahead. The ball into the box from Jule Kounde, facing his former club, was stupendous. And the way Lewandowski caught it on his chest and turned to punt it home was sheer class.

Anyone who suggested the Pole would struggle to replicate what he did at Bayern Munich has a whole dictionary of words to eat their way through. Five goals already this season. And counting…

What we were seeing was an FC Barcelona side that had not been in total control, but that was totally smashing the chances when they came.

Different. But very nice.

Joy for Eric

Sevilla, winless this season and winless in 14 league games against Barça, were heading for another loss. And it was Eric Garcia who made extra sure of that as he scored his first ever goal not only for FC Barcelona, but in his entire professional career.

Raphinha whipped in the ball and Kounde was at the far post to nod the ball right at Garcia’s feet. The second assist of the night for the Frenchman, And that was game over.

Julen Lopetegui made changes in the hope of mustering some kind of response, but he was fighting a lost cause. This game was done and dusted, and the most probable outcome was more Barça goals.

Lewandowski, Ferran Torres and Frenkie de Jong were among those who had chances to build on the lead. They failed in that mission but little did it matter. A third win in a row was well and truly in the bag and Barça move up to second in the league.

Next up is a return to the Spotify Camp Nou on Wednesday for the first game of the Champions League campaign. Bring on Viktoria Pkzen… Força Barça!
