Pedro María Artola

The forever popular Pello Artola (Andoain, Guipúzcoa, 1948) was a supremely agile goalkeeper amongst other qualities

Artola came to the Club in 1975 from Real Sociedad after a recommendation from Real Madrid coach Miljan Miljanic to his Barça counterpart Hennes Wesweiler. Pello earned his place in the starting XI after two seasons and in the 1977/78 season he won the Zamora trophy after conceding fewest goals in the league. A few miraculous performances between the posts earned him the nickname Saint Artola.

On 11 September there was a tribute match for the keeper against Athletic Club, a game in which there was also a goodbye for the defender Antonio Olmo.
